Sea Base 2011 - Sailing High Adventure

For the Sea Base Sea Exploring - Sailing Adventure, so far only 13 people have paid deposits and we must have a minimum crew of 18 people in order to keep our reservation.  If anyone has been considering going but not yet paid a deposit, now is the time to act.  If we do not secure five more participants quickly we will lose our reservation.  Among the highlights of your adventure will be sailing in a Tall Ship to a small archipelago of islands among the fabulous Florida Keys, fishing, snorkeling several reefs and maybe even catching some lobster.  Along the way you will troll for mackerel, barracuda and mahi-mahi, hopefully to supplement the ship’s stores.  The available Sea Exploring Adventure for a crew of 18 to 20 people begins at Sea Base in the Florida Keys on the afternoon of May 29 and ends after breakfast June 5, 2011.  So, we will need to leave Huntsville driving early morning Saturday May 28th and will return to Huntsville Monday evening June 6th.   The Sea Base fee will depend on the final number of participants but will range from $720 to $800 per person (plus travel expenses). The total amount should be less than $1000 per person. We must act quickly to confirm the reservation and submit a $100 per person non-refundable deposit.  Please respond by email to ASM David King at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it   to confirm that you want a slot on the crew for this adventure and make arrangements to get your $100 deposit to Mr. King ASAP (make check payable to Troop 343).

Opportunity is knocking but you must respond quickly.  Troop 343 has an opportunity for a crew of 18 to 20 people for a Sea Base Sea Exploring Adventure aboard one of Sea Base’s five Tall Ship sailing vessels ranging from 70 to 105 feet in length.  During this week-long odyssey you will snorkel several reefs as you sail among the fabulous Florida Keys. Along the way you will troll for mackerel, barracuda and mahi-mahi, hopefully to supplement the ship’s stores. Among the highlights of your adventure will be sailing to a small archipelago of islands, fishing, snorkeling and maybe even catching some lobster.  If you’re expecting a “cruise” and someone serving your meals, this is not the adventure for you. It is a rugged extended voyage on a large vessel. Everyone pitches in with the sailing and cooking chores. You’ll do on-board navigation, star study, and lots of snorkeling and fishing but, you won’t be waited on. If you are up to the challenge, this is the adventure for you.  Sea Base requires that participants be either 14 by September 1, 2011 or be 13 and have completed 8th grade by summer 2011.
